I’m such a sucker for Inspiring Travel Quotes. They spark my wanderlust and make me want to pack my bags and leave on the next plane. These are my 16 favorite Inspiring Travel Quotes.
1. “If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine: It’s lethal.” – Paulo Coelho
This quote by Paolo Coelho couldn’t be more true. Many of us get stuck in a routine, for example a 9 to 5 job. Eventually we get so caught up in this routine we start to believe that this is life, and forget to actually live.
2. “To travel is to live.” – Hans Christian Andersen
So relatable. I feel so alive and utterly happy when I’m traveling.
3. “Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.” – Jamie Lyn Beatty
So what’s better – to have full pockets or a fulfilled soul? The choice is yours.
4. “Actually, the best gift you could’ve given her was a lifetime of adventures” – Lewis Caroll, Alice in Wonderland
There are so many great quotes from Alice in Wonderland. Some of my other favorites are:
– Alice: This is impossible. The Mad Hatter: Only if you believe it is.
– Cheshire Cat: I’m not crazy, my reality is just different than yours.
– Alice: I’m afraid so. You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.
5. “Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta
This one goes for all of us. How I love sharing my travel stories with others, and how I love love love listening to other people’s stories.
6. “Once the travel bug bites there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life”― Michael Palin
My favorite quote of all. I got bitten by the travel bug in 2014 when I was travelling through Thailand. Can you remember when and where the travel bug bit you?
7. “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” – Unknown
This couldn’t be more true. I’ve gained and learned SO much from traveling. Even though I came home completely broke after my first year and a half of traveling, I never felt richer and more fulfilled.
8. “When overseas you learn more about your own country, than you do the place you’re visiting.” – Clint Borgen
This is soooo true as well! And something I actually never expected. I learned so much about my own culture and how different us Dutchies actually are. We are so direct and honest – something that is not always appreciated by other cultures 😉 What has travel taught you about your own country?
9. “Travel is never a matter of money, but of courage.” — Paulo Coelho
Oh yes. I know this might be easy for me to say coming from a western country with good wages, so saving up to travel is not really that hard. But for example, the decision to quit my full time job to travel the world took so much courage. Turned out: it’s the best decision I ever made 🙂
10. “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” – Neale Donald Walsch
When I traveled solo for the first time I was scared shitless. I remember the day I arrived in Australia – all by myself. I didn’t know a single soul Down Under. What if I wouldn’t be able to meet new people? Maybe nobody would like me? And what if I’d miss home too much? What if, what if, what if…. Almost four years later I look back and realize that was the moment when I truly started living. I broke out of my comfort zone. And I came alive.
11. “Not all those who wander are lost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien
Because it’s the journey that matters 😉
12. “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list.” – Susan Sontag
Haha, we all know this classic quote! So what’s next on your list? For me it’s Fiji, Sri Lanka, The Philippines, South America aaaaand… well, everywhere 😉
13. “Salt in the air, sand in my hair” – Unknown
If you’re a beach bum like me you can definitely relate to this quote. I just feel happiest close to the ocean 🙂
14. “I’m in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I’ve never met.” – Melody Truong
You might have heard this quote in the book and movie “The Fault in Our Stars”, but did you know its originally by young blogger Melody Truong? Such a wise girl! 🙂
15. “Travel far enough, you meet yourself.” – David Mitchell
I have learned so. damn. much. about myself in the past 4 years. The more you travel, the longer you travel, the further you travel – the more you learn. I believe I have truly become a different person because of traveling and living abroad. I discovered parts of myself I didn’t know existed.
16. “Of all the books in the world, the best stories are found between the pages of a passport.” – Unknown
I love collecting stamps and visas. And what I love even more is looking back at them. Oh the places I traveled 🙂
Which one of these inspiring travel quotes can you relate to? And who else feels like jumping on a plane right now? 😉 Let’s go!
