Australia – Going Dutch in Sydney

The past week I’ve been enjoying myself the Dutch way. I met the most awesome Dutch (and Flamish) people and together we explored Sydney and its surroundings.

The Breathtaking Blue Mountains
On Wednesday we met up for the first time, for a daytrip to t
he famous Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains NP is a National Park located about a three hour drive from Sydney (although I swear it took us only two hours). Once we got there we parked the car and headed off to the crowded-with-Chinese-viewpoint where we got to see the beautiful Three Sisters. After taking loads of photos (including the neccesary selfies, of course) we got ourselves ready for a few hours of hiking. During the hike we came across the most stunning views – this country keeps amazing me with all its beauty! There were many amazing viewpoints, a waterfall and very steep stairways. Happy and satisfied we returned to the car three hours later to start the journey back to the city. We ended the day with some (veggie-)burgers and pizza.

Dutchies love Beaches
Thursday was a hot hot hot day in Sydney, so what better way to spend the day than at Bondi Beach? The waves were high, the sun was shining bright and our skin got darker and darker. We enjoyed the rays of sunshine while listening to the songs of J Beebs. It was a lovely day.

At night I had dinner at my friend Charlotte’s house. She’s been living in Sydney with her boyfriend for three years now (originally from Amsterdam). She prepared a delicious salad for me and tog
ether with her boyfriend Thijs we drank some wine and talked about life in Australia. The next day they went on a roadtrip so they offered me to stay in their appartment while they were gone. I was so happy! No dormbeds, no filthy showers, no drunk young British people – just me, myself and a biiiig double bed. I enjoyed the past three nights to the fullest 🙂

After dinner I met up with my Dutch friends again and we went ended the night in one of the local gaybars.

Glebe Markets
On Saturday the Dutchies (and Flamish) and I went to the Glebe Markets. This is a market which has something to offer for everyone; food, fashion, jewellery – they have it all. I bought myself a cute little ring and a lovely jumpsuit, for only 5 dollars! The other girls also filled their bags with loads of new (and cheap – very important for backpackers ;)) additions to their wardrobes. After the shopping we chilled in the grass, listened to the live music and enjoyed the Sydney Surroundings.

I will spend one more night in Sydney before I head off to my next destination, which is most likely going to be the city Bundaberg. I found a working hostel which offers loads of farmwork there, so the travelling will have to make place for earning some serious cash for a while. After three months of travelling I can’t wait to make myself useful again 🙂 Keep you posted!
