What is an Easy Rider?

If you’re real dare devil and an experienced motorbike rider then I’d recommend renting or buying a motorbike yourself. But if you’re like me and you’d rather leave the driving to a pro, hopping on the back of an Easy Rider is the perfect solution.

An Easy Rider is a knowledgeable guide. He will not only drive you through the beautiful Vietnamese landscape, but will also indulge you into their culture.

Every hostel or hotel offers tours with Easy Riders. It is totally up to you where you want to go, what you want to see and how long you’d like the journey to take. You can also book your trip online through Book Motorcycle Tours.

We left from Nha Trang (never. go. there.) and drove via DaLat to Mui Ne. These 2 days/1 night were about 150 Euro (170 US dollar). This includes accommodation for the night and endlessly enjoying sitting at the back of the motorbike. Lunch is not included, but you stop at local restaurants where it doesn’t cost more than a few bucks. Your backpack is tied up at the back of the motorbike, which gives you some support to sit comfortably.

See the real Vietnam

In contrast with the typical touristic hotspots, the Easy Riders take you to the real Vietnam on the back of their motorbike. We visited a workshop where rice sheets for those delicious spring rolls were made. We saw how Vietnamese beds were woven and we made a stop at a silk factory. And as if the day hadn’t been great enough already, one of our drivers, Hinh, celebrated his birthday at 12 o’clock.

He invited us over for snacks and drinks. Speaking of drinks – Vietnamese men can drink A LOT! Together Hinh’s friends and family we lost track of time and tasted the local rice wine, devoured the snacks and sang songs whilst playing on the guitar. Mot ba hat do! (cheers!)

See so much more than when you travel by bus or train

When you travel by car, train or bus you might enjoy gazing out of the window for hours. But when you are sitting at the back of a motorbike you don’t only see the surroundings – you als feel them. The best moment of my trip was when we drove up into the mountains. After enjoying a spectacular view, we started descending down the mountains. Because it was quite a steep descent my Easy Rider turned his engine off and we peacefully glided down the mountains, without making a sound. The place was completely quiet, so peaceful and so beautiful. This moment could’ve lasted forever.

Vietnam has a very versatile landscape

When visiting Vietnam your itinerary probably consists of exploring the big cities and the coastal cities. The Easy Riders take you more into the rural country which is when you’ll start to notice how versatile Vietnams landscape is. You drive through green rice fields, over high mountain peaks, through woody forests and on desert-like sands.

The best way to end this journey

We ended our Easy Rider tour with an absolute bang: at the Sand Dunes in Mui Ne, a piece of Vietnam’s own dessert 😉 At these yellow sand dunes, which are close to the beach, you’ll instantly be surrounded by kids offering to rent you a sledge you can use to slide down the sand dunes. I can tell you this is great fun! And, well… you’re not a real tourist if you don’t take a jump-photo at this place! 🙂
