Malaga – where to eat & what to do

Malaga is a charming port city located on Southern Spain’s Costa Del Sol, located in Andalusia – one of Spain’s 17 autonomous regions. There are many reasons this Spanish city should be on top of your bucket list, and here’s why.

Why go to Malaga?

Malaga truly has something in store for everyone.
Love food? Malaga is where you’ll want to be.
Like beaches? Malaga has you covered.
Crazy about culture and history? Malaga is your man.
A fanatic shopaholic? Malaga is your new bff.
And I’ll tell you why.

Malaga has so many colorful ‘n cute streets!

First things first: food!

Malaga is a true food heaven. Delicious tapas at every corner, ice cold cervezas (beer) on every terrace and friendly smiles included for free 🙂

Uhmmm… YUM!!!

One of my Malaga-born and raised friends was kind enough to overload me with tips on where to eat. Here we go!

Malaga restaurants
Where to eat in Malaga. Let me know if you enjoyed any of these restaurants! 🙂

I wish we could’ve tried every single one of these restaurants, but due to our limited time we decided to visit El Pimpi and El Batik, as well as two spots for breakky we found ourselves, called Lova and Tramezzino:

El Pimpi – https://www.elpimpi.com/
El Pimpi located in an old 18th century Malaga mansion, and, if you ask me, it doesn’t get any more Spanish than this. There are several rooms where you can sit down and enjoy some local beers and the best tapas.

El Batik – https://www.batikmalaga.com/
El Batik is located on the fourth floor of a boutique hotel/hostel. The rooftop gives you front row seats to the Alcazaba de Malaga, a fortress  built between the 10th and the 15th century. But not just the views are great. I think this must be the best food we had in Malaga. The staff were also so extremely lovely and friendly and overall this place just had amazing vibes.

Tramezzino – https://www.tramezzino.es/
Tramezzino serves delicious, insta-worthy breakfast, and the word is out. Make sure you either make a reservation at this cute café as spots are very limited and it’s increasing in popularity rapidly.

Don’t tell me you’re not drooling 😉

Lovahttps://www.kitchenlov is a vegan-friendly cafe, but also serves meat for those who still live in the illusion that meat is the only thing that fills them up 😉 Not only the food is lovely, the café itself is beautifully decorated.

Isn’t Lova just gorgeous?

Done eating? Get ready for some fairy tale magic!

If you love castles, you have to visit the gorgeous Castillo de Colomares. We rented a motorbike, but on the way to this fairy tale like castle we realized we wouldn’t make it in time before siesta. A siesta is an afternoon nap the Spanish take during the hottest hours of the day. We therefore stopped in Torremolinos, a town 25km from Malaga.

Honestly, Torremolinos isn’t all that special, but a good spot to grab lunch or to do some shopping. We did the latter, and I left Torremolinos with two new dresses and two new pairs of shoes 😉

Castillo Monumento Colomares is everything little girls (and big girls) dream of and more. A gorgeous, enchanting castle, built between 1987 and 1994, dedicated to honor the life and adventures of Christopher Columbus. Not only is the castle itself absolutely breathtaking, you also get the most scenic views over the neighboring towns.

Close to Malaga: Castillo de Colomares
I could sit there all day 🙂

TIP: During Spring the castle is closed between 14:00 and 16:00. We arrived at arrived at 15:45 and were already allowed to enter. Entrance is just €2,50 and getting in early gives you the opportunity to explore the castle without too many other tourists around, resulting in gorgeous pictures. Please do check out the opening times on their website as they might change throughout the seasons.

Castillo de Colomares
Run, Princess, Run!

I think I say this with almost every place I visit, but Malaga is definitely a city I’d like to go back to one day. I could even imagine myself living here!
