When you think of Australia you think of the iconic Sydney Opera House. This beauty was formally opened in 1973 and has quickly become one of Australia’s most well-known icons. It is therefore no wonder that everyone who travels Down Under wants to get their own picture with the Opera House in the background. If you’re looking to get one yourself, then here’s where you need to go.
1. Right in front of the Opera House
This first one may seem an obvious one, but it’s often a spot many people tend to forget: right in front of the Opera House. The earlier in the morning you go, the less people will be in your picture. I took this photo around noon during winter, hence the magical light in this picture.
2. From the Opera Bar
Take your Sydney-selfie with a cold drink in your hand at the Opera Bar . Also a great spot to witness one of those epic Sydney sunsets!
3. From InterContinental Sydney
Waking up with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge as one of the first things you see – how does that sound? 🙂 Staying at this beautiful Sydney hotel isn’t cheap, but for me this truly was a dream come true. If you’re interested in reading more about my stay at this gorgeous hotel you can do so here.
4. Close to Park Hyatt
I couldn’t find an exact address for this spot, so I looked it up on Google Maps for you 🙂 Where you see the pink dot is where I took this photo exactly.
If you intend to climb this pillar like I did, please remember to be careful! The Sydney Harbour is full of sharks – you don’t wanna fall in 😉 (kidding, of course – or am I…?).
5. From the ferry
I love visiting Sydney’s suburb Manly, because it means I get to go for a ride on the ferry. The Manly ferry sails past the Opera House, giving you the best views from different angles. Get your camera’s ready…
6. Mrs Macquarie’s Point
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was March 2016, I just arrived in Sydney, quickly checked into my Kings Cross Hostel and then headed towards the Sydney Harbour. I couldn’t wait to fi-na-lly see the famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge!
Mrs Macquarie’s Chair is where I first laid eyes on these two Sydney icons – a moment I will never forget. One of the great things about this spot is that you it gives you a gorgeous view on both the Opera House and Harbour Bridge together 🙂
7. Milsons Point
Located in North Sydney, Milsons Point is another great spot for taking your Opera House selfie as well. While you’re there don’t forget to pay a visit to the famous Luna Park – fun guaranteed 🙂
8. MacCallum Pool
It still surprises me that in Australia you’ll find pools everywhere, even in the most random places. MacCallum Pool is definitely one of them if you ask me 😉 But going for a swim while looking at the Opera House (and Harbour Bridge) doesn’t sound too bad, does it?
I hope this blogpost helped you in finding the most beautiful Opera House spots in Sydney. Don’t forget to share your photos with me via @eefexplores – I love to see what you capture! 🙂
