If you’re looking for the best day trips from Melbourne then look no further. There’s plenty to do and see IN Melbourne, but if you have the time then exploring the surroundings is a must-do as well. Can’t decide where to go? I listed the five best options for you.
Koalas and wallabies at Moonlit Sanctuary
Only 50 minutes from Melbourne you’ll find Moonlit Sanctuary. Now you might have read my post about why you should not hold or cuddle a koala. Holding a koala is very stressful for these cute looking animals, but if you wish Moonlit Sanctuary offers you the experience to still encounter a koala from up close 🙂
And it’s not just cute koalas you get to see at Moonlit. Embark on their Wallaby Walk and meet some of the friendliest wallabies in Victoria. Great selfies guaranteed 😉
Go Penguin-spotting at Phillip Island
If you love stunning scenery and cute Aussie animals then Philip Island is where you want to go. Philip Island is only a short two hour drive away from Melbourne, and home to beautiful wildlife.
Philip Island is well-known for it’s famous penguin parade. Around sunset you’ll see hundreds of cute little penguins make their way from the ocean on to the beach.
For an entire overview what to do (on the way to) Philip Island you can read my dedicated Philip Island blog post here 🙂
Wilsons Promontory
Wilsons Prom is the first National Park I ever visited in Australia, and it’s absolutely stunning. It’s located on a peninsula three hours southeast from Melbourne.
At Wilsons Promontory you’ll be able to spot some iconic Aussie wildlife. Think wombats, wallabies, kangaroos and emus. If you’re looking for a bit more action then climb up to the top of Mount Bishop – beautiful views guaranteed. And if you’re looking to relax or want to go for a swim, squeaky beach is where you want to go 🙂
The Grampians National Park
Home to great views, wonderful waterfalls and plenty of iconic Australian wildlife – that’s the Grampians. If you love hiking then the Grampians has a lot in store for you.
For a a complete overview of walks and viewpoints, please visit the Grampians National Park website.
Tip: don’t forget to stop at the MacKenzie falls. The hike down there is pretty easy, but getting back to the top is not for the faint-hearted. But trust me: it’ll all be worth it 🙂
Great Ocean Road
You kind of already saw this one coming, didn’t you? 😉 The Great Ocean Road is one of Australia’s most famous tourist attractions and most beautiful drives, so of course I had to add it to this list 😉
Stop at the 12 Apostles and see there are actually only 7 of them. Witness the beauty of Loch Ard Gorge and don’t forget to stop at The Bakers Oven.
I hope you’ll enjoy these five day trips from Melbourne to the fullest 🙂 I sure did!
