Indonesia – A little slice of Paradise called Gili T

The Gili Islands are three teeny-tiny islands located east of Bali, closely located next to Bali’s brother on the left, Lombok. Gili Trawangan is the biggest of the three and is nowadays notoriously known as the ‘party island’. Gili Air is slightly smaller and more popular amongst ‘the more mature’ backpackers and Gili Meno, the smallest of the three, is known as the honeymoon/couple island.

Imagine what paradise looks like
Yup, that’s the Gili Islands. Palm trees everywhere, white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters where you’ll find colorful fishes minding their everyday business. Add some fresh fruit juices, gorgeous sunrises/sunsets and elegant resorts to that and the formulae is complete: the Gili Islands are heaven on earth.

Never lose that island vibe
The atmosphere at the Gili Islands is very laid back (they don’t even have police on Gili Air!)  One of the reasons is that there are no motorized vehicles allowed on the islands. You can either walk, cycle or get around by horse-taxi. Yes, you read that right: in Gili they do it like they did in the old days. The horse taxis are with 100-150k (around €6-12) quite expensive, so unless you’re not carrying 20kg of useless shit around like I am, it’s just as easy to walk or cycle. In a few hours you can do one whole leap around the island!

Pirates in Paradise
Our first stop was Gili Trawangan. Not because we were looking forward to drowning ourselves in mushroom shakes or harass hot 21 year old boys, but because we heard so many good stories about Le Pirate, a resort located in the northwest of Gili T. This resort is a little bit more expensive than most hotels on the island, but as soon as you arrive it is immediately clear why: picture perfect priceless pinch-yourself paradise! The bungalows are simple yet so sophisticated and pretty (look at the bathroom!), the pool areas look inviting  and the beach was just like a dream. The food served in the restaurant was fingerlicking good, the staff is super friendly and a few nights a week they organize a movie night right at the beach. We stayed at Le Pirate for four nights, and with a heavy heart we eventually had to leave this little slice of paradise.

Within 1,5 hours we traveled from Le Pirate at Gili T to our new accommodation. This included two horse-taxi rides and a boat ride – wow that went fast! Where did it takes us? I’ll tell you more in my next blog 🙂
