Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is probably one of the biggest surprises of 2019 for me. Never in a million years did I think Baku has so much to offer. It’s where tradition meets modernity and where old meets new. And it’s an absolute dream for any photographer, Instagrammer or blogger.
If you’re interested in reading what to do in Baku, then please read my blog post on Magical modern & majestic Baku here.
In this article I’ll tell you where to find the best photo spots in Baku.
1. Baku Old Town
It actually doesn’t matter where you go in Baku’s Old Town; everywhere you look you find beautiful photo spots. Baku’s Old Town reminded me of Marrakesh and Rome, but then much more quiet and relaxed. Wander around and feel like you stepped into your own Aladdin movie 🙂
2. Flame towers from Highland Park
Azerbaijan is also known as the land of fire, where the word “Azer” stands for fire. Thus name “The Flame Towers“. These towers were completed in 2012 and represent the country’s eternal flame.
Highland Park is a locals favorite, and provides you with stunning views on the Flame Towers.
3. Overlooking the city from Highland Park
Baku’s third great photo spot is also in Highland park. On the left side you can take a great shot with the flame towers, and if you walk towards the right side you get unbeatable city views.
4. Flame Towers from Baku’s Little Venice
This is one of those spots we stumbled upon by coincidence, and it turned out to be my most beautiful Baku photo of the entire trip. Because, well, look at it! You can find this iconic photo spot with the three flame towers in the background at Baku’s Little Venice.
5. Little Venice
Not only is the spot above worth a shot, but Baku’s Little Venice itself is great for taking pretty pictures as well.
6. One of the carpet shops
If you thought you have to travel to Marrakesh or Turkey for a cute carpet-photo then I’ve got good news for you: you don’t! 🙂 You’ll find many carpet shops all around Baku, with the majority of them in Baku’s Old Town.
Always ask the shop owner if you’re allowed to take a photo. This shouldn’t be a problem though as people in Baku are amongst the friendliest people I ever encountered on my travels.
7. Qubernator Café – Flower Phone Booth
Who would’ve thought you could find such an Instagrammable spot in the heart of Baku? Not me! But you’ll find this cute flower phone booth at Qubernator Café.
8. Pretty Planters in Old Town
Another spot in Old Town: these pretty planters! You’ll find them close to the Maiden Tower.
9. Blue Mosque in Highland Park
Surrounded by beautiful greenery and flowers, this beautiful mosque in Highland Park looks just picture perfect.
If you finished reading this entire article it most likely means you’re going to pay a visit to Baku in the near future. Yay! You absolutely won’t regret it 🙂
Have fun exploring Baku and don’t forget to tag me @eefexplores in any of the photos you take at these spots. I love seeing what you create!
