Thailand – Picture Perfect Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi is nowadays known as the infamous party island. The backpackers we met before we went to Phi Phi told us to prepare ourselves because it would be a very expensive, crowded place, and most of them weren’t feeling very positive about the island. With no expectations we began our journey from Koh Tao to Koh Phi Phi.

Small shopping streets
Our hotel was located 5 minutes from the pier. It was in the middle of the busy shopping district of Phi Phi where you can also find some restaurants. These restaurants aren’t as cheap as in the north of Thailand, but it was about just as expensive as Koh Tao or Phangan. The streets were busy indeed, but we found it rather bustling and exciting than annoyingly overcrowded.

Phi Phi = Party Paradise
If you’re a party hardy and you’re on Phi Phi you came to the right place: there’s a beach party every night (until 2:00) and in the city center you’ll also find some bars where you can go for a bucket or a dance. Unfortunately I was sick during the most time I spent on Phi Phi, but my friends had the time of their lives, and by sharing their stories with me it felt like  I was there as welI. And don’t worry: after a lot of sleep and a short trip to the hospital I feel like new again 🙂

Phi Phi = Pretty Pretty!
The beaches at Phi Phi are SO pretty. With its white sandy beaches, green waters and rough rocky mountains Phi Phi is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful islands of them all. The most famous beach of Phi Phi is Maya Beach, well known because of the movie ‘The Beach’. We didn’t visit Maya Beach because it is such a touristic hotspot, and we’d rather enjoy a nice, quiet beach than fighting with a bunch of Chinese tourists over a picture.

Phi Phi was a lot better than we had expected. Its streets are alive, the beaches are breathtaking and the party goes on all night. If you’re looking for a quiet island then Phi Phi is not the place for you, but otherwise I would really recommend spending a few nights in this tropical paradise. Our next stop was Koh Lanta, on which I’ll update you in a few days 🙂
