Watsons Bay is located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and well worth spending the day at. Beautiful beaches, stunning views and the best spots to relax – Watsons Bay has it all. Here are 5 places to go when you’re planning a visit to Watsons Bay.
1. Camp Cove
A stunning beach you have most likely seen before on a pic or two. Great for sunbathing or to get your instaworthy shot. My favorite thing about this beach is the priceless Sydney Skyline view.
Not only is this beach (with the iconic Camp Cove “house”) a sight for sore eyes, it is also of historical significance as it is the probable site of the first landfall in the Sydney Harbour. In his diary, Captain Philip described how they arrived in the dark, setting up their tents for the night. They called their campsite “Camp Cove”*.
2. Walk the South Heritage Trail
Embark on the very easy and short South Heritage Trail, starting from Camp Cove. This trail will take you past some historic gun emplacements, a gorgeous beach (which I’ll talk about next) and a beautiful Lighthouse.
3. Lady Bay Beach
Crystal clear waters and the ultimate place to relax, that’s Lady Bay Beach. Especially in winter this is a popular destination for sun worshippers as this bay is often nearly wind-free. But be aware: this is a nudist beach so if you’re not comfy with naked boobies and willies flying around this might not be the beach for you 😉
4. Hornby Lighthouse
At the end of the South Heritage Trail this stunning beauty awaits you: Hornby Lighthouse (I did not type “horny” ten times by accident – you did!) This Lighthouse was built in 1858 and was only the third lighthouse to be built in New South Wales.
Tip: if you’re here in winter then sit down, relax, bring a blanket (both to sit on and to keep you warm) and see if you can detect some whales, as this is a great whale watching spot.
5. Watsons Bay Boutique hotel
My favorite place for a Sunday session or to see the sunset is definitely Watsons Bay Boutique hotel. This place always gives me straight-up holiday vibes. Go here for a bite to eat, for a drink or both – you won’t regret it.
If you’re only in Sydney for a limited time, then why not combine your visit to Watsons Bay with a trip to Manly? The ferry to Manly leaves from Watsons Bay frequently, and only takes 15 minutes. Enjoy! 🙂
